Viridian Solar - 20 years of PV

By Pilgrim - June 06, 2022

In this Smart Energy People podcast, Martin Davies shares his nearly 20-year journey as CEO of Viridian Solar the PV specialists.

From an experiment painting a radiator black in 2003, to acquisition by building firm Marley. Making real stuff in the UK. How builders and planners think about new build. Price to build a house vs. price to run it. The rise and fall of the feed-in tariff. From point solutions to Smart devices, and joined-up thinking (how many current clamps do you need in your meter cupboard)? The 5 year view. Smart hot water heaters, sourced from gas, direct electric or heat pump. Being internet-connected, signals from outside the building such as electricity pricing. Towards co-operation between devices. V2G. Lots of niches. For house-builders, PV not mandated but becoming optimal. EV charging mandated. PV great in summer, heat pumps mainly needed in winter. Grid not going away any time soon! Grid challenges of demand-response.
